Sir Ken Robinson: World-Changer

Writer's picture: Phil JarvisPhil Jarvis

Rest in peace, Sir Ken. Your 2006 most-viewed-ever Ted Talk, "Do Schools Kill Creativity?" inspired me and millions around the work to reimagine education.

Between you and Nelson Mandela ("Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world"), I now see the essential purpose of education as empowering students to create a better world (see headline above), not to prepare them for tests, or have them memorize arbitrary, age-based curricula they can Google on a moment's notice, lifelong!

You changed the world far more than most, Sir Ken. Thank you!

Land Acknowlegement:

The land on which we work in present day Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, is the traditional unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq Peoples, the "Dawnland Conferacy." This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi'kmaq, Wolastoqewiyik (Maliseet) and Passamaquoddy Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1726 recognizing Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqewiyik (Maliseet) title and established the rules for an ongoing relationship between the nations.
